Fine arts activities in which you participated while at SCA:
Musicals and plays, Concert Choir, Chorale, Regional Choir, Worship Team
Major At College:
Public Relations & Advertising
Minor in Music
What is your favorite thing about your chosen major?
Advertising is the only industry that gets to work with all other industries. I don’t know if there is a company out there that doesn’t want to share their story with their audience. I look forward to a career that is similar to careers in the arts in that it is not locked in to one specific business or product, but rather is full of new experiences and diverse work!
What is your favorite thing about your college?
I would have never guessed the degree to which I could shape my college experience. Almost everything is customizable: Your classes, your schedule, your free time, the people you surround yourself with…take advantage of it! The most fulfilling college experience is the one that you make uniquely your own.
How do you integrate your faith in your pursuit of work in fine arts?
I quickly learned that integrating one’s faith into an activity does not require that activity to have a faith-driven purpose. My goal is to let my faith show through the way I treat others and the respect I have for those I work with.
What would you like to do after you graduate from college?
It’s really between working in strategy at an advertising agency, conducting the pit of professional musicals, or some glorious combination of the two.
A word of advice to SCA students who might be considering majoring in fine arts at college:
No matter what major you are considering, getting involved in the arts at SCA will teach you how to tell a story, which I believe is the heart of all business. Other than that, stick with your passion and don’t let anyone tell you which fields of study you can and can not combine!
