Fine arts activities in which you participated while at SCA:
Junior High Concert choir, Concert choir, select Chorale, plays & musicals
Azusa Pacific University
Major At College:
BFA in Acting
Minor in Pre-Law
What is your favorite thing about your chosen major?
My favorite aspect is being able to study the craft I have come to love over the years. Everyday I get to go to classes I enjoy that will help me develop in my career.
What is your favorite thing about your college?
The community of the school I am at is something I greatly appreciate. Coming from SCA, I was really looking for a school that felt large, but also has the community aspect that SCA had. Especially within the BFA program, everyone is supportive of one another and the work we are all doing.
How do you integrate your faith in your pursuit of work in fine arts?
Currently, I am a part of a ministry choir at APU known as University Choir and Orchestra. We travel to churches and participate in events around California. It has been a great opportunity for me to be a part of a choir that’s sole focus is the idea of ministering to others through music.
What would you like to do after you graduate from college?
I want to do a variety of things, but ideally be a working actor as well as a musician . As long as I can do what I love for the rest of my life, I will be satisfied wherever my career will take me.
A word of advice to SCA students who might be considering majoring in fine arts at college:
This career is not an easy one. You will be surrounded by negativity and rejection throughout your entire career. Do not let that discourage you. Surround yourself with people who are going to support you, and encourage you in the rough times. Go full force ahead and never give up on your dreams. One of my favorite quotes comes from Jim Carrey and he says, “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.” You want to be able to wake up everyday and say you love what you do. If that is a degree in the fine arts, then nothing sounds better than that.
