What is your favorite thing about your chosen major?
I enjoy the focus of the program, which is the art of telling stories truthfully through playing real people. At the end of the day, we all look for stories that resonate with us–stories that challenge and inspire us.
What is your favorite thing about your college?
I enjoy APU’s location (30 minutes from LA). It has connected me with great theaters in the area, and it allows me to keep theater, film, and television on my plate of options.
How do you integrate your faith in your pursuit of work in fine arts?
Jesus told stories to make points, and these stories shaped culture. I feel it is my duty as a Christian to tell stories through acting. This doesn’t necessarily mean I have to be playing Christian characters. I feel it necessary for Christians to be in the industry and do good work. The work should be of the same caliber as non-Christians, but it has a different purpose.
What would you like to do after you graduate from college?
I would like to be a working actor, which is easier said than done. But the dream is to have my hand in all kinds of endeavors ranging from musical theatre to film. Hopefully, I will be able to move to New York one day and pursue musical theatre there.
A word of advice to SCA students who might be considering majoring in fine arts at college:
Just go for it! You’ll know whether or not you’re crazy about it in the first couple of years. If there is something else you can picture yourself doing and loving, do that! Follow your passion, and praise the One who gave it to you with it.
