Major At College:
BFA in Cinematic Arts Production
What is your favorite thing about your chosen major?
I enjoy being able to learn the art of cinema and storytelling through a Christian perspective. It’s one thing to learn how to tell a story, but to tell it through the eyes of a Christian can change that story completely.
What is your favorite thing about your college?
I get to mature and learn to be an independent adult alongside others. Being at a university with such a great community, I am able to grow as an individual with the support of my close friends.
How do you integrate your faith in your pursuit of work in fine arts?
At APU, I am part of a ministry choir called Men’s Chorale. We act as an evangelical music group that sings in churches and schools around the area. Through this choir, we are able to worship God through music and spread that worship to others.
What would you like to do after you graduate from college?
With my major, I would like to be able to focus on directing in the film industry. Being so close to Los Angeles and Hollywood, I will have countless opportunities to fulfill that.
A word of advice to SCA students who might be considering majoring in fine arts at college:
Do what you love. Upon entering college, I made the mistake of pushing my interests aside and pursuing a major which did not appropriately fit me in the hopes that I could get a high-level job. At the end of my semester, I realized that if I had a job that I did not enjoy, regardless of my position or income, I would be miserable and regret not pursuing my dreams. Take the risk and do what you love, and you’ll end up in places you were meant to be at.
