B.A. in Christian Studies (incl Worship Arts)
What is your favorite thing about your chosen major?
I thoroughly enjoy having to be in the Word on a daily basis. I am being pushed spiritually in my academic work, which, consequently, has a direct impact on my life. As a person who is involved in ministry and worship, I find much value in the application of scripture to my everyday life. Worship is more than just a service or a song; it is a lifestyle.
What is your favorite thing about your college?
Being an online student has allowed me to both take one more responsibility at my church and actively pursue my personal ambitions regarding music. I am able take what I learn in my courses are apply it as a worship leader.
How do you integrate your faith in your pursuit of work in fine arts?
My faith and my work are practically one in the same. I am one of the worship leaders at my church. While I do believe that people in such positions should be gifted musically, I believe it is much more important that they be spiritually mature. I expect my effectiveness as a leader in the church to increase as I grow in my walk with Christ.
What would you like to do after you graduate from college?
My plans after school revolve around worship music. I hope to one day become a worship pastor and also record and release worship music of my own. I believe in the power of music and in the power of scripture. Together, they can usher in the presence of God.
A word of advice to SCA students who might be considering majoring in fine arts at college:
Go after what you want. It really is not a big deal to switch majors, as I did three times my freshman year. What is important is that you pursue what you desire, whether others think it to be small or insignificant. Listen to your heart, follow God’s direction, and give it 100%.
